ALISsearch Library Catalog

The catalog now has two versions, the classic Millennium catalog and the new Encore interface.  For now, use either one to search for books and other library materials at Garden City and 50 other public libraries in the Nassau Library System.  Eventually, Encore will replace Millennium.

American Government

This database from ABC-CLIO explains the foundations of our government and political systems in detail, and illustrates their relevance to today’s issues. Coverage includes federal, local, and state systems, and rights and liberties. There are 12,000 primary sources and 2,100 biographies of historical and current figures, including Supreme Court justices and members of the U.S. House and Senate. The “Analyze” section includes well-crafted pro-and-con essays.

American History

This survey of American history from 1350 to the present investigates the people, events, and themes of our nation’s evolution. The 15,000 primary and secondary sources include overview essays, biographies, government and court documents, photos, maps, audio and video clips, and statistics. There are 3,300 biographies of famous political and military figures.

Ancestry.com New York

The New York State Archives has partnered with Ancestry.com to digitize New York State records of interest to genealogists. The resulting database is free to NY State residents and available in the library or remotely.
