Teen Art, Snack & Chat on Zoom

Join us for a virtual meet-up, “Teen Art, Chat, and Snack,” on Tuesday, April 13, from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM. Bring your favorite snacks and gather up whatever art supplies you have at home. Then join us as we work on art together while chatting and snacking! This program is for Grades 6-12 only.

We will be using Zoom video conferencing for this virtual program. For more information about Zoom, visit their website at zoom.us. Library Remains a Vital Community Resource During Pandemic

Though the library building is closed, the Garden City Public Library has been working to provide the community with information, education, and entertainment through its website, its Facebook pages, and Nassau’s Overdrive collection, the Nassau Digital Doorway. The Library’s digital resources are available 24/7 with a valid library card. New copies of eBooks and digital audiobooks are being added for adults, children, and young adults to the Nassau Digital Doorway daily. Checkouts have increased during this time of social distancing, so additional copies of popular titles will continue to be added. (more…)

Digital Library Cards for Online Access

The Garden City Public Library, in conjunction with the Nassau Library System, is offering residents without an existing valid library card the opportunity to get a Digital Library Card to access ebooks, audiobooks, live tutoring, digital magazines, language courses, test prep, and more. Apply for digital access today at https://nassaulibrary.org/digital-card-application.

If you do have a valid library card, use that one, it works just fine online and there is no need to apply for another. There is also an option if you have a valid library card but do not know the barcode that the system will send the number to you. (more…)

The Chicks Have Hatched!

The Garden City Public Library Tweens and Teens Department‘s annual chick incubation project began with the arrival of the eggs on Tuesday, February 25. The chicks hatched throughout the day on March 16 and March 17. Out of 12 eggs, 10 successfully hatched.

Robo Expo

photo of robotics table at 'Robo Expo' on 02/24/2020The FIRST LEGO League teams in Garden City, including the Garden City Public Library’s Sixth Grade team as well as the Garden City Middle School’s Seventh- and Eighth-Grade teams, and the Garden City Friends of STEAM received certificates of recognition from State Assemblyman Edward Ra during the third annual “Robo Expo.”

The Garden City Friends of STEAM and the Garden City Public Library partnered together to host the “Robo Expo” on Monday, February 24, at the Library.

Members of the FIRST LEGO League teams from the Garden City Public Library and Garden City Middle School demonstrated the EV3 Robot in action for parents and children during the third annual “Robo Expo.” Patrons listened to FIRST LEGO League teams speak about their experiences during the third annual “Robo Expo.”
