- Who may use the computers?
The Young Adult Computer Center is reserved for students in Grades 6-12.
- How do I sign up to use the computers?
Use your library-card number and PIN (personal identification number) to log into a computer. The first time you log in, you will be asked to create a PIN. Anyone under 17 years of age should have a parent sign a consent form.
- When are the computers available?
The computers are available during regular library hours if a staff member is available to supervise the area. The computers will shut down 15 minutes before the Library closes. There is a sign-up station to reserve the next-available computer if all are in use when you come in.
- How long may I use the computers?
Students may log in for a one hour session. If the Young Adult Computer Center is not busy, the user may remain on the computer for up to three hours. Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments cannot be made in advance or over the telephone.
- How many people can use the computers at one time?
One person is permitted to use the computer at a time; one helper or observer may also be seated at the workstation. Groups of bystanders will be told to disperse. Any boisterous, unruly, or inappropriate behavior will result in the immediate forfeiture of further use of the computer and may also result in ejection from the library.
- How much does it cost to print?
Pages cost 10¢ each.
- How do I pay for my print-outs?
Before printing, bring your money to the Circulation Desk and ask the clerk to add it to your account.
- Where do I store my work?
Users must store their own work on their own diskettes or USB flashdrives. User files left on the computer's hard disk will be deleted.
- Can I access the Internet?
Yes, but certain sites, including chat/IM, social networking (e.g., MySpace, FaceBook, etc.), streaming media, and sites with inappropriate or illegal content will be blocked. All computer users must abide by the "Policy Statement on Public Use of Internet Resources."
- Can the filter be turned off?
- Can I burn CDs or DVDs?
No, but if you have a Powerpoint, Publisher, or Word file on a CD, you can open it. If you need to make changes, you will have to save it to a diskette or USB flashdrive.
