2014 YA Summer Reading Club

E-mail Print

The 2014 Summer Reading Club and special summer programs for teens and ‘tweens are underway. The theme of the 2014 New York State Summer Reading Program is SPARK a Reaction! Teens and ‘tweens entering Middle School or High School in September 2014 are invited to join the Summer Reading Club.

Registration began June 16 and continues throughout July for the 2014 Young Adult Summer Reading Club. Join by signing up at the YA Desk  or filling out an online registration. All registrants get a sign-up prize bag. If you sign-up online, do not forget to ask for your prize bag on your next visit to the Library.

Read anything: a summer-assignment book, a recreational book, a newspaper, a magazine, a graphic novel, an eBook, an audiobook, a travel book - no limits. Fill out a mini-review form and hand it in for a raffle prize. Mini-reviews can be done on a form in the YA room or sent by email. If the form is sent by email, a print out will be placed in the raffle box.

Win cool prizes! Each week eight mini reviews are pulled and prizes are awarded. Instead of a raffle review, you may keep a reading diary and show it to the YA Librarian before August 6. Get an invitation to the annual pizza party - the "End of Summer Bash" - to be held on August 13. Prizes will be awarded at the party.

Away all summer? You may still join and participate in “SPARK a Reaction!” through email or snail mail to:

If you have any questions, contact Marge Kelly at 516-742-8405, or come and visit her at the YA desk in the Library.

Reminder: The Tweens 'n’ Teens Room has copies of books on the Summer Reading Lists from Garden City Middle School and Garden City High School as well as many private/parochial schools. The Library also offers audiobooks on CD and Playaway as well as downloadable eBooks and audiobooks for some of the reading-list titles. Fill out a mini-review for summer-assignment books to win a raffle prize as part of the YA Summer Reading Club.
