Young Adult Department

The Young Adult Department of the Library is specifically designed to serve students in grades 6-12. Here teens and ‘tweens will find a large selection of books, audiobooks, college catalogs and guidebooks, and magazines. There are computers with varied electronic resources to assist students with school assignments as well as with the college search process. Marge Kelly, the young-adult librarian, provides young adults with suggestions on what to read for pleasure as well as help finding materials for school assignments.Nicholas Lapoma, founder & lead tutor of Curvebreakers Test Prep, illustrated the differences between the ACT & SAT exams and described test-taking strategy at a workshop for students & parents on 10/8/14.

The Library also offers teens and ‘tweens the opportunity to download eBooks and audiobooks 24 hours a day, seven days a week to their personal electronic devices. To get started, click on the “download” icon at the upper right corner of the Library’s webpage, enter the Nassau Digital Doorway, and select YA or classic eBook and audiobook titles to download. Be sure to have your library card in hand.Steve Espey of the Garden City Recreation Department talks to young adults about precautions to take while babysitting at the parks, pools, and home during the 'Safety Session' of the 'Babysitting Workshop' on 4/3/14.

Freegal Music is the free-and-legal music service available to YAs and all Garden City Public Library patrons. Teens can download five songs per week, which are theirs to keep. In addition Freegal users can stream three hours of music per day. To get started, click on the Freegal Music link at the top of the page. Barry Fox of College Finance Consulting College Access, Inc. & member of the NYS Financial Aid Administrators Assn. returned to the Library on 10/22/14 for his 30th presentation on 'How to Beat the High Cost of College.'
