Young Adult Department

The Young Adult Department of the Library is specifically designed to serve students in grades 6-12. Here teens and ‘tweens will find a large selection of books, audiobooks, college catalogs and guidebooks, and magazines. There are computers with varied electronic resources to assist students with school assignments as well as with the college search process. Marge Kelly, the young-adult librarian, provides young adults with suggestions on what to read for pleasure as well as help finding materials for school assignments.Young Adult Librarian Marge Kelly

Steve Espey of the Garden City Recreation Department talks to young adults about precautions to take while babysitting at the parks, pools, and home during the 'Safety Session' of the 'Babysitting Workshop' on April 3, 2014.The Library also offers teens and ‘tweens the opportunity to download eBooks and audiobooks 24 hours a day, seven days a week to their personal electronic devices. To get started, click on the “download” icon at the upper right corner of the Library’s webpage, enter the Nassau Digital Doorway, and select YA or classic eBook and audiobook titles to download. Be sure to have your library card in hand.

Freegal Music is the free-and-legal music service available to YAs and all Garden City Public Library patrons. Teens can download five songs per week, which are theirs to keep. In addition Freegal users can stream three hours of music per day. To get started, click on the Freegal Music link at the top of the page. 

The YA Department offers a wide range of programs generously funded by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Click on the menu selections on the right side of the page to learn more about what’s available for young people as well as to register for programs.
