Summer 2013: Dig Into Reading! Print Email
News From the Children's Room

Last week, we listed the first five reasons why your child should join the Summer Reading Club. The next five reasons are:

  1. Summer Reading Clubs promote reading for enjoyment.
  2. Summer Reading Clubs encourage parents to read to their children.
  3. Summer Reading Clubs may be the only non-sport activity available to children.
  4. Toddlers respond to the sound of language.
  5. Toddlers and preschoolers get the opportunity to hear wonderful stories for the first time.

This year’s Summer Reading Club theme is “Dig Into Reading!” The Little Diggers Read-to-Me Club is for children ages 2½-5 years old (not entering Kindergarten in Fall 2013) while the Explorers Reading Club is for children entering Grades K-5 in September 2013. Special-needs children are welcome with an adult. As part of the Summer Reading Club, children can choose from a variety of activities that they can do either at home or at the Library in order to win prizes.

Registration for the Summer Reading Club begins June 17 at 9:30 AM in the Children’s Room and is ongoing. Non-residents can register beginning Monday, July 1, at 9:30 AM. Check for our flyers in the Children’s Room for more information about the Summer Reading Club and additional summer programming.
