The Nassau Digital Doorway site has been given a new appearance and enhanced features. The new site works best with the Internet Explorer 10, Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari browsers. If you are using an earlier version of Internet Explorer and cannot or do not want to upgrade, you can install the free Chrome Frame plug-in. A new feature called Overdrive Read allows the user to read books online, as an alternative to downloading (which requires the installation of Adobe Digital Editions, Overdrive Media Console, or Kindle Reader, depending on the user’s device and the type of material).
Garden City residents can borrow eBooks from the Library’s growing eBook collection. This free service is compatible with Windows and Mac computers, and with the Kindle, the Nook, Android phones and tablets, the iPad and iPhone, and many other eReaders and mobile devices.
To get started, click on the “Download” box located at the upper right corner of the Library’s webpage. Instructions can be found by clicking on the “My Help!” link found on the Nassau Digital Doorway page. Patrons are also invited to stop by the Reference Desk and pick up printed instruction sheets.
