As the registration date for the Summer Reading Club approaches, the Children’s Room is counting down the Top 20 Reasons why your child should join the Summer Reading Club. Here are the first five reasons:
- Reading sharpens minds.
- The program is open to all children regardless of their reading level.
- Reading as few as four to five books over the summer can keep elementary-school students’ skills from slipping.
- It keeps minds stimulated over the summer.
- Summer Reading Clubs are fun for children who are reluctant readers.
This year’s Summer Reading Club theme is “Every Hero Has a Story!” The Super Kids Read-to-Me Club is for children ages 2½-5 years old (not entering Kindergarten in Fall 2015) while the Power Readers Reading Club is for children entering Grades K-5 in September 2015. Special-needs children are welcome with an adult. As part of the Summer Reading Club, children can choose from a variety of activities that they can do either at home or at the Library in order to win prizes.
Registration for the Summer Reading Club begins June 22 at 9:30 AM in the Children’s Room and is ongoing. Non-residents can register beginning Monday, July 6 at 9:30 AM. Check our website and Eventkeeper for more information about the Summer Reading Club and additional summer programming, or look for our flyers in the Children’s Room.
