Library Board Submits Comparative Analysis Report |

On November 23, 2011, a comparative analysis report of peer libraries in Nassau County was sent to each of the four-property owner’s association presidents. At its meeting on December 12, 2011, the Board of Library Trustees unanimously voted to make this report available to the public. A full copy of the report may be obtained via the Library’s website or by going to the Library, where printed copies are available at the adult reference desk. At the Board of Library Trustees meeting January 9, 2012, Chairman Randy Colahan administered the Oath of Office to new Trustee John D. Schultz with a term of office January 1, 2012 - December 31, 2016. John Schultz and his wife of ten years, Lisa Lehnert who was born and schooled in Garden City have resided in the village for five years. They are proud parents of three daughters. John was raised in Stewart Manor served on the Board of Directors, and Chairman of the nominating committee of the Eastern Property Owners Association during 2008-2009.
Professional Background: IT Financial Controller for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Credit Suisse First Boston.
College / Graduate School Attended: Fordham University – Graduate School of Business Administration MBA, Finance and Economics
Penn State University BS, Accounting

Successful Summer Food Drive |

The Garden City Public Library, as part of the Annual Hauppauge Industrial Association’s Summer Food Drive contributed 153 lbs. of non-perishable food and other items to Long Island Cares, Inc., The Harry Chapin Food Bank. The Library had a collection bin in the lobby for canned and dry goods and other non-perishable items throughout the summer. Long Island Cares, Inc., The Harry Chapin Food Bank thanked the Library and its patrons for joining the organization’s mission to end hunger on Long Island. Long Island Cares distributes more than five million pounds of food to nearly 600 member agencies. In addition, the organization seeks to heighten public awareness about hunger and provides skills training to foster self-sufficiency among the population that benefits from the services. Lions Club Grateful for Collection of Eyeglasses |

The Garden City Public Library is a collection site for used eyeglasses for the Recycle for Sight Program, which is run by a local Lions Club. The Lions Club has expressed its appreciation to Library Board Vice Chair Gloria Weinrich and the Library for continuing to serve as an ongoing collection site for the Recycle for Sight Program. The glasses are reprocessed and distributed to those in need worldwide. A box is provided for the used-eyeglass collection near the interior doors of the Library. |
