| Funding for these programs is provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Any Young Adult program requiring resgistration is for students in grades 6-12 only. Registered participants must be present at the time the program is scheduled to begin. We reget that after that time, their place may be given to those on the waiting list. |

| 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. | “How to Write a Winning College Essay,” with Martha Maloof, PhD. Dr. Maloof will talk about the secrets of writing a good college essay. She will critique your essay at the program. This program will be followed by a Q & A period. Register beginning Tuesday, September 2. |

| 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. | “How to Beat the High Cost of College,” with college financial expert Barry Fox, B.A., M.A. Parents and YAs are invited to learn how to obtain maximum college financial aid. Including: student-aid sources; financial-aid forms; negotiations; eligibility for grants and loans; special family circumstances; New York State aid; best free websites for scholarship search. This 90 minute program will be followed by Q & A period. No registration necessary. |

| 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. | “SAT Workshop for Parents and YAs” with Steve Rosner of Kaplan Test Prep. Parents & YAs are invited to join a workshop including practice tests to show the format of the SAT. Strategies necessary for success on the test will be explained. This one hour program will be followed by a Q & A period. Register beginning Monday, September 15. |

| 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. | "Edible Haunted Houses." Christine Rissanen will teach young adults the art of creating edible houses. In the spirit of the Halloween season, the houses’ decorations will be haunted. Registration begins October 4 and is limited to 20 participants. Don’t miss out. Register early. |

| 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. | "Babysitting Workshop: First-Aid Session." Two neonatal RNs, JoAnn Tanck and Georgette Basso, will teach participants the basics of first aid and infant and childcare. Young Adults in grades 6-12 are invited to enroll. Registration begins October 7. |

| 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. | "Babysitting Workshop: Safety Session." Conducted by Detective Rich Pedone of the Garden City Police Department Youth Bureau and Mr. Ed Fronkwicz, assistant superintendant of the Garden City Recreation Department, safety issues will be emphasized. Those enrollees who attend both sessions will be not only prepared to care for younger children safely but will be awarded a certificate of completion of this training course. Young Adults in grades 6-12 are invited to enroll. Registration begins October 7. |

| 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. | "Scrapbooking: Holiday Pages." For those who took the workshop this summer, this session will refine and build on the skills learned. For those unable to attend, basic techniques will be taught. For all, two pages will be created with holiday themes for memories and keepsakes. Registration begins October 29. |

| 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. | "Italic Calligraphy." Joanne Insinga returns to teach YAs the basics of calligraphy. Holiday cards will never be ordinary again! Beginners will learn the basic techniques; experienced teens can improve their techniques. Registration begins November 25. |
