Check Your Record

For more information about accessing your library account online, please contact the Reference Desk at 742-8405.

Email Courtesy Notices

The Garden City Public Library, along with other public libraries in Nassau County has begun to send eMail courtesy notices to remind patrons about checked out materials that may be coming due. If you have an email address in your patron record and you have items currently checked out, you will receive these email notices, which will be sent three days before your items are due. The eMails are meant as a reminder that library materials must be returned soon as well as to help you avoid delinquencies and fines. The eMail subject line will read "LIBRARY COURTESY NOTICE."

Garden City patrons who wish to take advantage of this new service can give their eMail addresses to the Circulation staff at the Library or go online to the Library catalog and add their eMail addresses to their record by clicking on “Modify Personal Information.” All patrons can access their accounts online through the catalog. Users can reserve and renew books as well as check the due dates of items currently checked out.

NextReads

Suppose you could get a free newsletter recommending great reads on your favorite topics? NextReads, a new electronic service, does just that. If you have an eMail address, you can subscribe to any of 22 subject lists with annotations. Fiction and nonfiction newsletter topics include Biography and Memoir, Fantasy, Mystery, Nature and Science, and Audiobooks, as well as two children's newsletters and one for young adults. Newsletters are sent on a monthly or bimonthly basis. Each one describes up to 12 books, with links to the Library catalog, so that subscribers can place a hold on a title. Library patrons who don’t have an eMail address can view the newsletters online, either at the Library or from any computer with Internet access.

Library Discard Books Available

The Library has partnered with Better World Books to sell discard books. Better World Books is an online bookseller, which returns a percentage of the sales to the Library and also contributes a percentage of sales to non-profit literacy partners. Garden City’s discards can be viewed online at www.betterworld.com. For additional information, interested purchasers should contact the Reference Desk.
